At first glance, the story of Georg Jensen appears simple:
an artistically gifted Danish boy from a working-class family
who loved nature and aspired to become a sculptor,
grew up to become a silversmith, founded a company,
and designed and made jewelry, flatware and hollowware
that earned him international acclaim and
significantly influenced the direction of decorative arts.

All these things are true; however,
Jensen's fascinating story is not so simple.
In order to properly understand his life and his accomplishments,
one must take a broader view that goes beyond the useful
but narrowly focused biographical material available.

That is, certain social, cultural, and economic trends
that developed before and during his lifetime
must be taken into account in order to understand
how his artistic and philosophical values were shaped
and why his accomplishments are so worthy of recognition.

It is useful, therefore, to review the historical events
that rocked the foundations of Western culture
in the turbulent century that surrounded Jensen's birth in 1866.

however, Jensen's fascinating story is not so simple.

みなさま、お正月は　いかがお過ごしでしたか？

私は、毎年　年末から年始にかけての
新しく年が改まる期間が

なんとも　清々しく　そして厳かで　
どこか胸も　ワクワクして
子供のころから　大好きなのですが（＾－＾）、

お正月も　三が日を過ぎると、
あっというまに　通常モードになってしまい、

ああ、もうお休みも　終わってしまった。。。と
少し心さびしい　感じにもなってしまいます。



が、同時に、しっかり休んだあとの、
また　いつもの　シャカシャカ　仕事＆勉強モードに
戻っていくときの感覚も案外好きで、

さあ、またがんばるぞーと　気合いが入って
リフレッシュされた後は　なんとも心地良いのです。


１月２日には、家族で　
近くの三嶋大社に初詣に行ってきました。


今年１年に　想いを馳せ、
神様の前で　志　新たに、

静かに胸の中で　
「今年は　これをやりますっ！」と
宣言してきました。


今年は　朝晩の　心静かに　
「内なる自分」と　向き合う時間も
大切にしたいなあと　思っています。

　
２０１３年も　みなさまにとって
また素敵な輝ける　素晴らしい年となりますように――☆
