Flatware
Many of Jensen's subsequent patterns are more adventurous,
exhibiting the sculptural qualities that are characteristic of his style.
His lijekonal (Lily of the Valley) pattern, introduced in 1913,
futures a garland that traces the tapering end of the handle.
Even more sculptural is the Magnolie (Blossom) pattern,
introduced in 1919, which features a realistic stem-and-blossom design
that appears to grow from the handle.
This pattern, perhaps more than any other, demonstrates
the sculptural quality that earned Jensen widespread acclaim.
Many of Jensen’s flatware designs were inspired by natural forms:
flowers that resemble lilies trace handles, entwined fish form handles
of fish-serving implements, a blossom with berries forms the ends of
serving spoons, and leaves are engraved on a vegetable serving set.
The flower on the Blossom flatware patterns also appears
as ha handle on the cover of the Blossom teapot,
which was introduced in 1905.
