あっというまに
もう今週末は　クリスマス！

そして　今年も　もう１０日あまり、

ワクワク気分と同時に
あれも　これもと、やらねばならぬ　ことが　
なぜか　一気に押し寄せた感じで
なんとも　気忙しい時期でも　ありますね。。。


ここ静岡でも　
かなり寒い日が続いていますが
みなさま、お元気で　お過ごしですか？（*^_^*）


では　前回の続きで

When I saw some old factory buildings and the waterways
that provided them with hydraulic power,

I could visualize the way the landscape had been
when Georg's father worked as a grinder
at the Raadvad Knife Manufactory ---
the place where Georg had shown his first clay figures
to beguiled workmen.

Other scenes helped me fill in a picture of the past:
old houses, the peaceful forest and well-born horseback riders
galloping along the paths just as others had done in his day.

On that Sunday, it seemed as though I had arrived
not only in the physical place
where Jensen spent his formative years,
but also in the emotional space that nurtured the gentle spirit
of one of the most accomplished and respected artists of his time.

古い工場の建物と、
そこへ水力を供給していた水路が見えた。

すると、そのとき私には、
ジョージ ジェンセンの父がナイフとぎ師として
ロヴェールのナイフ工場で働いていた頃の
あたりの風景が目に見えるようだった。

そこで、ジョージは、初めての粘土像をつくり、
職人たちを魅了したのだ。




Other scenes helped me
fill in a picture of the past:

また、古い家並や　のどかな森の風景、
小道を駆け抜ける名門出の乗馬愛好家といった、
彼の時代にも、同様であっただろう
他の風景を目にしたことで、私の脳裏には
過去の１枚の絵が完成した。

その日曜日、私は単に、
ジョージ ジェンセンが自己形成期を過ごした
物理的な場所に到着しただけではない。

その時代、最も成功し尊敬された芸術家の一人である
彼の温和で寛容な精神を育てた情緒的な場所へも
到着したように思えた。
